Why? The reasons for creating this site are varied. If my own level of knowledge allows me to explain to someone else, then I’m probably doing OK. The act of writing and creating content makes me think about what has been done, why it was done and what should be done next. Because I procrastinate and writing helps me focus and prioritise. Someone else might benefit or, in some small way, be inspired. The suggestion is not that this work is inspirational, but sometimes sparks of interest, can come from the strangest places. Also, I find it quite enjoyable.
What this site is (trying) to be! To be informative. To tell a story about various projects and endeavours fuelled mainly by a desire to learn and fascination with engineering. Demonstration that knowing what your limits are, where you have sufficient knowledge and expertise and, probably more importantly, where you don’t, is a key skill.
What this site is not! Although I have formal qualifications (e.g. Bachelor of Engineering, Master’s, etc), this content is not intended to be a scientific journal or demonstration of flawless engineering rigour.
Outside of the workplace and education, I haven’t written much, certainly not for public consumption. There is no assumption that anyone, other than myself, will be interested in this content or tolerate my mistakes or writing style. The main themes of engineering, design, fabrication, motorcycles, cars, etc. are very popular. My intention is not to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm in these fascinating topics.
